On my way

I'm not, by nature, a blogger. I'm a teacher--I feel like I have to have something of value to share before I let it loose. As a science teacher, I had great stuff to share, cooked up by some of the finest minds in history. As myself, well, let's just say it's humbling. But my daily life is about to become interesting in a new way. I'm headed to Pistishi, a small village in the Ecuadorean highlands, where I will teach English and computer skills so that my students can qualify for entrance to high school. I've got a guaranteed three months, but I hope to last longer. After all, I was in the Peace Corps for two years, with no communication with the outside world except by letter, which now seems incredibly ancient. I'll be able to communicate through the internet now, which means that I can reach outside on Pistishi on a real-time basis. It's incredible how the world has changed for those of us who are compelled to wander.

I hope that this website is still under construction. I don't own a camera, a problem I hope to correct before I go. I'm sure pictures will make reading about my life more bearable. I also look forward to reader comments that will help me to help the major part of Pistishi that lies beyond my classroom. It's a funny thing to suddenly realize, this late in life, how much I have to learn. And that's why this blog is called, "Edelstein Opens His Mind."

Thanks for tuning in.
